Great Sankey High School held its first Literary festival last week. The festival was designed to inspire, encourage and celebrate reading throughout the whole school.
Highlights from the week included: a theatre performance of Macbeth for Year 10 Students; a visit from “Geek Girl” author Holly Smale to talk and workshop with Year 7 and 8 students; students interviewing the author of “Eleven”, Tom Rodgers, live from Los Angeles via Skype; Othello workshops from a visiting theatre company took place over two days for Year 11 students and Literacy Football sessions for Year 7 students, delivered in the classroom and on the football pitch from a visiting group.
Running all week in the school library and drama classes have been book reviews, book quizzes, Shakespeare sessions, script writing competitions plus staff and Year 7 students dressing up as favourite literary characters for World Book Day.
