Dear parent/carer,

I write with an update with regards to college closure as a result of the directives given by the Prime Minister yesterday.

Tomorrow, Friday 20thMarch will be the last day of college until further notice. Year 12 will be set meaningful work via google classroom. This work will reflect both class hours missed and independent study expectations. Teaching staff will be working remotely to both set, monitor, mark and to give feedback.

With regards to our year 13 students, we are waiting for the Education Secretary to reveal further details in relation to the cancellation of summer examinations and assessments, how qualifications will be awarded and any appeals process. This is due to take place tomorrow, Friday 20thMarch. On receipt of this information, I will communicate again with both students and parents.

Although year 13 lessons will not take place tomorrow, the college is still officially open and students are welcome to come in to speak to staff should they wish to.

It is my intention to re-arrange year 13 leavers celebrations, including prom, for a later date. I cannot specify this date at this moment but we are aiming for the end of August, beginning of September. Students should keep an eye on emails for further details.

It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to have had the current cohort study at Barrow Hall College and it is extremely sad that their journey with us has been cut short. Staff will be available remotely to offer any support we can in the up and coming weeks and months via email.

This – like the coronavirus itself – is an unprecedented situation for all of us, however, our commitment to our students and supporting them to realise their potential has not and will not change.

I wish you and your family the best over this trying period.

Yours sincerely

Rhianne Bond
Head of College
