We are thrilled to share the remarkable achievement of Maisie Brittles, who has been crowned the British Junior Inter-Regional Champion in the WJ16 single sculling event for 2024. This prestigious victory marks a significant milestone in Maisie’s rowing journey and highlights her incredible growth and dedication over the past year.
Last year, Maisie faced a formidable challenge at the British Junior Inter-Regional Championships 2023. The event was marred by poor conditions on the regatta lake, and despite her undeniable talent, Maisie’s relative inexperience led to a tough finish in 8th place. However, this experience became a stepping stone for her development as a rower.
Fast forward to 2024, and Maisie returned to the championships with renewed vigour and confidence. Her decisive victory in the regional trials earned her a spot on the Northwest team for the WJ16 (Year 11) single sculling event. This time, Maisie showcased not only her enhanced skills but also a matured and unwavering belief in herself.
From the eliminators to the final, Maisie’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. Her determination and drive were evident in every stroke, culminating in a dominant final race. Taking the lead with 500 meters to go, Maisie made it clear that she was in control. Her tenacity and resolve ensured that she maintained her lead, securing the gold medal and the coveted title of British Junior Inter-Regional Champion.
Maisie’s progress over the past year is a testament to her hard work and resilience. She has established herself among the top six scullers in her age group across the country, a recognition that led to her invitation to the prestigious GB Rowing Team J16 Easter training camp in March.
