Author Phil Earle came into school to vist Year 7 students where he delivered a presentation, Q and A session and a writing workshop.
Phil is one of the most exciting and engaging writers for young adults and students were captivated when he read out extracts from his books 'Being Billy,' 'While the Storm Rages' and his award-winning novel 'When the Sky Falls.'
He was lively and energetic when talking about what inspired him to start writing and where ideas for his stories come from
On becoming Book Trust's 13th Writer in Residence, he said:
“Growing up as a non-reader, I had no idea about the power of stories: of the places they can take you or the people you can meet as a result. My belief that we are ALL readers, that there is a story out there for every child, waiting to ignite their imaginations”
“I believe we are surrounded by stories, every day of our lives. All we have to do is keep our eyes and ears open, because even the simplest or most mundane events can spark off a new adventure. An adventure we are compelled to re-tell.”
The creative writing workshop enabled a number of students to compile a short story, using practical tips and advice from Phil. Proving that anyone can write!
