Great Sankey High School has claimed yet another victory in the world of rugby league, this time in the North West final. The year 11 boys team secured an emphatic 20-0 win against Wade Deacon at Crosfields, Warrington.  Tries from Lucas, Ronnie, Billy, and Lachlan secured the win. The game was a closely fought affair, with the score standing at 10-0 at half time. However, the team’s skill, talent and resolve were enough for them to complete a clean sweep of rugby league titles and cement their place in the rugby league history books. A fitting end to their time together as Great Sankey High School rugby league players.

This success comes just weeks after the team's third consecutive national final win. In that game, Great Sankey High School faced Spen Valley High School and claimed a resounding 38-8 victory. The team scored tries from Oli (x2), Billy (x2), Junior, Oliver, Lachlan, and Lewis, with Daniel adding the successful conversions. It was a back-to-back triumph, having also defeated the same West Yorkshire opposition in last year’s final.

This incredible team of talented youngsters are no strangers to silverware, as a Year 7 team, in 2019, they won the showpiece decider that was the curtain-raiser to the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final at Wembley – completing a double for the town that year as Warrington Wolves were also winners that day against St Helens. The form continued into Year 8, before all competitions were unfortunately cancelled due to Covid-19. As fixtures started up again in Year 10, the team picked up where they left off - matching the success from Year 7 by again winning the national and North West titles.

With last night’s win, Great Sankey High School has now won every major trophy available to them throughout their school lives. This incredible achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team, as well as their coach Stuart Garry and the PE department. Garry had this to say about his team's success: "The lads are a superb talented bunch who show pride in representing the school. It has been a pleasure to have the opportunity to be a part of their success. Myself along with all staff at school and their parents are incredibly proud of their historic achievements."

Garry added his thanks to Lee Westwood from Warrington Wolves, who has helped coach the team since year 7, and has played a major role in the team’s development.

The Great Sankey High School rugby league team is a shining example of what can be achieved with hard work, dedication, and talent. Their success has brought pride to their school and community, and they are sure to continue to inspire future generations of rugby league players.

Nobody is prouder of the team’s achievements than the PE department who have been with the boys every step of the way, and after their final win as Great Sankey students, they posted the following message, “A pleasure to watch these lads play rugby throughout their school life. Won every trophy available to them. Every Sankey team will look up to them and deservedly so. We hope they’ve made lifelong memories and know how proud of them everyone in PE and school is. #champions”.

This Great Sankey team has cemented their place as one of the most dominant rugby league teams in the history of game. Congratulations boys!
