We are delighted to share the incredible accomplishments of three outstanding students from Great Sankey High School at the recent Youth Speaks public speaking competition, organized by the Rotary Club. This prestigious competition offers a platform for young individuals to develop their public speaking skills, enhance their confidence, and express their viewpoints on important issues.
In what proved to be the largest participation yet, our talented trio – Floraidh, Shanthi, and Ava – showcased their exceptional abilities among 72 teams from 38 schools. Sponsored by 25 Rotary Clubs, the event underscored the significance of nurturing creativity and presentation skills, essential for effective public speaking.
Having participated in the Warrington District Heat on February 8, 2024, where they delivered an awe-inspiring performance, Floraidh, Shanthi, and Ava emerged as shining stars, securing their well-deserved spot in the competition's final round. The final showdown, which took place last night in Newton-le-Willows, served as the ultimate platform for these talented individuals to demonstrate their prowess in the art of public speaking.
It was during this final showdown that they delivered a compelling speech on "The Inequality of Gender in Sports." Their choice of topic not only demonstrated their passion but also highlighted their dedication to researching and articulating their ideas.
What's particularly noteworthy is that Floraidh, Shanthi, and Ava delivered their speech flawlessly, without relying on any notes. This remarkable feat earned them high praise from the judging panel, which comprised seasoned orators.
Though victory may have eluded us this time, we couldn't be prouder of our students' achievements. Their confidence, passion, and eloquence serve as a testament to their hard work and determination.
