Lacey, a remarkable gymnast at Urban School of Gymnastics in Warrington, has embarked on an extraordinary journey since she first stepped into the gymnasium at the age of 4. However, her path has been anything but ordinary, as she confronts the challenges of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder that renders her joints prone to dislocation.

In the face of adversity, Lacey's unwavering determination and resilience have propelled her to remarkable heights in the world of gymnastics. Despite grappling with flat feet, joint pain, fatigue, and other symptoms associated with her condition, Lacey remains undeterred in her pursuit of excellence.

"She doesn't openly talk about her disability and just carries on with no moaning or excuses," remarks Lacey's mother, echoing the sentiments of admiration and pride shared by her family and community.

Lacey's commitment to her craft is nothing short of awe-inspiring, evident in her rigorous training regimen of 20 hours per week. Her exceptional level of fitness, coupled with her unwavering dedication, has enabled her to compete at the mainstream national pathway, a testament to her talent and perseverance.

Despite the inherent challenges posed by her condition, Lacey has refused to let it hinder her aspirations. Recently, she showcased her remarkable talents at the Disability British Championships, emerging victorious as the Junior British Champion. This remarkable achievement has earned her a coveted spot in the British Masters Apparatus Finals, where she will compete against gymnasts of all ages, including adults.

"This is a tremendous opportunity and experience for Lacey," her mother states proudly. "She will have the chance to meet her gymnast idols, including members of Team GB and Olympic athletes."

In addition to her remarkable achievements on the gymnastics floor, Lacey has also garnered attention from specialists and physiotherapists who have marvelled at her resilience and strength. Despite the severe effects of her condition on her feet, Lacey has astounded professionals with her ability to walk, hop, and jump with ease. Her physiotherapist attributed this feat to her exceptional core strength, a testament to Lacey's dedication to her training regimen.

As Lacey prepares to take on the British Masters Apparatus Finals, she carries with her the unwavering support and admiration of her school, her family, and her community. With each graceful movement and daring routine, she continues to inspire others with her indomitable spirit and unwavering determination.

From everyone at Great Sankey High School, we extend our heartfelt best wishes to Lacey as she embarks on this incredible journey. May her resilience, perseverance, and talent continue to shine brightly, illuminating the path for others to follow.
