Last night, Great Sankey High School proudly competed in the Rotary Warrington District heat of the Youth Speaks competition, held at Stockton Heath Methodist Church. This prestigious event provides young people with the opportunity to develop their public speaking skills, explore important topics, and showcase their talents in front of an audience and judges.

Our Key Stage 3 team, represented by Kenneth, Arthur, and Laithan, delivered an insightful and passionate discussion on protecting the oceans. Highlighting the critical importance of marine conservation, the team explored the detrimental effects of pollution, climate change, and human activities on ocean ecosystems. Speaking with remarkable confidence and displaying excellent teamwork, they captivated the audience and judges alike. Although they narrowly missed out on securing a place in the final, their performance was truly commendable and showcased their in-depth knowledge and dedication to the topic.

In the Key Stage 4 category, Joshua, Leo, and Hayden took the stage to discuss the profound impact sport has on mental health. Their presentation highlighted how participation in sports can promote mental well-being, reduce stress, and foster resilience, especially among young people. The team provided compelling arguments, backed by research and personal insights, making a strong case for the importance of sports in maintaining mental health. Their articulate arguments and compelling presentation not only impressed everyone present but also earned them a well-deserved victory in their heat. The team will now advance to the finals, a remarkable achievement that reflects their hard work, dedication, and bravery.

Public speaking is no easy feat, and both teams demonstrated exceptional courage and eloquence in tackling challenging topics. Standing in front of an audience requires immense bravery, and our students rose to the occasion with poise and clarity. Their ability to convey their ideas so effectively is a testament to their preparation, hard work, and talent.

We are incredibly proud of all our students who participated, and we wish our KS4 team the best of luck in the finals! Their success is an inspiration to the entire school community, and we look forward to seeing them shine in the next stage of the competition.

Well done to all involved for representing Great Sankey High School with such distinction and making us proud!
