Our Year 10 students have just completed a fantastic Work Experience Week, taking part in a wide range of placements across Warrington and beyond. From professional services to healthcare, trades, education, and creative industries, this year’s programme has given students a real insight into the world of work—and what a success it has been.

Throughout the week, students embraced every opportunity to learn new skills, meet inspiring professionals, and experience the day-to-day reality of different careers. They took on responsibilities in areas including finance, IT support, construction, dental practices, accountancy, customer service, engineering, education, and even music retail.

Among the highlights were:

  • Cameron working with NH Heating on live installations and repairs, showing great teamwork and professionalism.
  • Ethan experiencing patient care and clinical work at Grappenhall Dental Practice, where staff commented on how punctual, attentive, and enthusiastic he was.
  • Sienna learning advanced climbing and rescue techniques at Zero Gravity Safety.
  • Warren visiting London for MBA’s annual Apprentice Day and touring different technology departments.
  • Samuel measuring cable runs for a major project at the Etihad Stadium with Electricity North West.
  • Alex re-stringing guitars and helping customers at Thingz That Make Noize.
  • Annabelle gaining hospitality experience at Gulliver’s World Hotel before moving to the theme park team.
  • Ava impressing the team at Ignite Accountancy so much she was offered the chance to return in the future.
  • Dylan supporting staff and pupils at Barrow Hall Primary School.
  • Theo learning about property and finance at Ascot Mortgages.

We’ve had some wonderful feedback from employers about how well our students have represented the school. Staff at Ignite Accountancy commented:

“Ava has been great all week, and it has been a pleasure having her in the office. She has settled in with all the team members—really easy company and wanting to learn.”

At Grappenhall Dental Practice, Ethan was praised by the team:

“He has been a pleasure to have here this week. He is punctual, attentive and enjoying the experience.”

NH Heating also shared positive feedback about Cameron’s attitude and work ethic:

“He’s had a great week, worked well with the other engineers and been polite with the customers. A real asset to any employer.”

These are just a few examples of the overwhelmingly positive responses we have received, and we are extremely proud of how our students conducted themselves throughout the week.

Work experience plays a vital role in preparing young people for life beyond school. It gives students the chance to step out of their comfort zone, grow as individuals, and understand what employers expect. Each placement has helped them build confidence, develop essential employability skills such as communication and teamwork, and explore ideas about their future pathways.

We are hugely grateful to every employer and organisation who offered placements, gave up their time to mentor our students, and created such welcoming environments. Your support makes a real difference to our young people.

To our Year 10 students—well done! You have been fantastic ambassadors for Great Sankey High School. We hope this experience has inspired you, broadened your horizons, and shown you what you are capable of achieving.
