Young Writers Success – 33 Pupils Published in Grim Tales

At Great Sankey High School, our commitment to improving literacy continues to be a key focus, with particular emphasis this year on developing pupils’ creative writing skills. One of the exciting ways we support this is by encouraging participation in the national Young Writers competitions, which give pupils the opportunity to showcase their talents in a variety of forms, from poetry to mini sagas.
The most recent competition, Grim Tales, challenged pupils to reimagine traditional fairy tales with their own dark and imaginative twists. We are delighted to announce that 33 of our pupils have had their work published in Grim Tales: Shadows and Secrets, a beautifully produced book that they can treasure for years to come.
Entries were submitted both through the LRC and by pupils from Miss Jackson’s English groups last year, reflecting the whole-school commitment to nurturing creativity. The LRC typically runs three to four Young Writers competitions each academic year, giving pupils regular opportunities to have their work recognised on a national level.
Some of our published pupils were so proud of their achievements that they visited the LRC to share their copies and celebrate this fantastic milestone in their writing journey.
We are incredibly proud of all of our young writers and look forward to seeing even more of their creative work brought to life in future competitions.
