Year 8 Student Walks in Memory of Teammate at Warrington’s Hope 100

On Saturday 6th September, Liam in Year 8 joined hundreds of people at Victoria Park for Warrington’s Hope 100 Walk, completing a 5k route in memory of his rugby teammate who sadly passed away at the end of last year.
The event, organised by Warrington Speak Up, is held annually to mark World Suicide Prevention Day. This year’s walk, starting from the Asics Stadium in Victoria Park, saw the community come together to reflect, support one another and raise awareness of the importance of mental health.
The Hope 100 Walk provides a space for people to share experiences, connect with others, or simply walk in silence to remember loved ones. The event is a reminder that by having open conversations, actively listening, asking questions and challenging the stigma around mental health, we can all play a part in preventing suicide and supporting those who may be struggling.
For Liam, the walk was a deeply personal way of honouring his teammate’s memory, while also standing alongside others to spread a message of hope across Warrington.
We are incredibly proud of Liam for showing such compassion, resilience and community spirit in taking part in this important event. His involvement highlights the powerful role young people can play in raising awareness and supporting mental health initiatives.
