Year 8 Student Shows Incredible Initiative with New Community Youth Group

We are incredibly proud to share some fantastic news about one of our Year 8 students, James, who has shown outstanding initiative, leadership and community spirit.
During the half-term break, James took the remarkable step of organising a brand-new youth group at Westbrook Library. His aim was simple but powerful: to create a safe, welcoming space for young people in the area while also helping to raise money and support the local library.
After being contacted by James’ parents, Headteacher Mr Evans met with James alongside Mrs Mather from the Year 8 team to hear more about the project and to recognise his efforts. In his message to James’ parents, Mr Evans shared:
“I am really proud that he has taken the decision to set this up and have explained that it will hopefully have a great impact not just on the young people who attend but also the library.”
He also confirmed that James would be nominated for the Headteacher Award this week in recognition of his initiative — a thoroughly deserved achievement.
Those who met with James commented on how humble he was when discussing what he had put together, despite the significant impact it is already set to have on the local community. It is wonderful to see young people taking responsibility, thinking creatively, and stepping up to make a difference.

The group begins this Friday, and we are excited to see it flourish.
James’ actions demonstrate exactly what we encourage in our students: leadership, compassion and a commitment to making a positive difference. By taking the initiative to create a space for young people to come together, learn, and have fun, he is showing that even at a young age, it is possible to make a real impact. His efforts will benefit not only the children who attend the group, but also the wider community and the library itself. James is a fantastic role model, and his dedication, creativity and sense of responsibility are qualities we hope will inspire other students to follow in his footsteps.
Well done, James — we are extremely proud of you!
