We are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of former Great Sankey student Ashwin, who is now studying at Cronton College and making waves on a national—and now international—stage in the world of science and engineering.

 

Ashwin was selected to take part in the highly prestigious UK Space Design Competition (UKSDC), an internationally recognised programme that brings together some of the brightest and most talented students with a passion for space, engineering, and innovation. Selection for the competition alone is a significant achievement, reflecting exceptional problem-solving ability, teamwork, and enthusiasm.

 

As part of a team, Ashwin was challenged to design a fully functional second human settlement on Mars. This complex brief required students to consider a wide range of real-world factors, including advanced construction methods, sustainable operations, human survival needs, and the medical challenges of living on the Red Planet. Over the course of an intensive day, Ashwin and his team worked collaboratively to develop and present a detailed and imaginative proposal to a panel of expert judges.

 

Their hard work and creativity paid off, as the team went on to win the North West regional competition, securing their place at the National Finals held at Imperial College London. Competing against some of the top student teams from across the UK, Ashwin once again demonstrated outstanding skill, contributing to an impressive performance that showcased innovation, resilience, and teamwork.

 

Following this success, Ashwin has now been selected to represent the UK team at the international stage of the competition in Florida—an incredible honour that places him among the very best young STEM students in the world.

 

In recognition of his achievement, Ashwin has been awarded a full scholarship, covering all costs associated with the international competition, including flights, accommodation, and participation. This is a remarkable accomplishment and a testament to his dedication and talent.

 

Ashwin previously studied Computer Science and IT at Great Sankey, where he developed the strong foundation of knowledge and skills that have supported him in reaching this point. His journey is an inspiring example of where passion, hard work, and determination can lead.

 

We are delighted to see Ashwin thriving and representing his college and country at such a high level. Everyone at Great Sankey is immensely proud of his achievements, and we look forward to following his continued success in the future.
