Great Sankey High School students are celebrating outstanding success in this year’s UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Junior Maths Challenge, with more than 80 pupils across Year 7 and Year 8 taking part and achieving participation, bronze, silver and gold awards.
The school is especially proud of four students who have now been invited to take part in the next round of the competition, the prestigious Junior Mathematical Olympiad, which will take place on 9th June.
The students progressing to the next stage are:
- Theo (Year 7)
- Tim (Year 7)
- Kenji (Year 7)
- Kary (Year 8)
All four students achieved scores of over 80% in the challenge — an exceptional accomplishment in a competition designed to test mathematical reasoning, logic and problem-solving skills.
Theo achieved the highest score in the school, while Kary achieved the highest score in Year 8, making their performances even more impressive.
The UKMT Junior Maths Challenge is a nationally recognised competition aimed at encouraging a love of mathematics and developing students’ ability to think creatively and logically. Each year, hundreds of thousands of students from across the UK take part in the 60-minute challenge, which is designed to stretch even the most able young mathematicians through a series of complex problem-solving questions.
Only the highest-performing students across the country are invited to progress to the Junior Mathematical Olympiad, a demanding follow-on competition featuring advanced mathematical problems and written solutions.
To celebrate their fantastic achievement, the four students met with Headteacher Mr Evans today for a congratulatory photograph and recognition of their success. Their achievements have also been shared during year group assemblies to celebrate their hard work and inspire other students across the school.
Great Sankey High School is incredibly proud of all students who took part in the challenge and would like to congratulate Theo, Tim, Kenji and Kary on their exceptional performances and wish them the very best in the next round.
