Great Sankey High School recently celebrated World Book Day with an explosion of literary fervour and creative engagement. The day was marked with an array of activities aimed at fostering a love for reading and celebrating the magic of literature.

One of the highlights of the day was the spirited participation of the school staff, who dressed up as their favourite literary characters. From classic heroes to modern protagonists, the staff showcased their love for literature with imaginative costumes that brought beloved characters to life within the school halls.

To further engage the students, a thrilling book hunt was organised, adding an element of excitement to the festivities. Over 100 pupils enthusiastically participated, joining staff members in the hunt for twenty hidden characters, each holding a book representing their chosen character. This interactive activity not only encouraged students to explore different areas of the school but also allowed them to discover new books and characters along the way.

As an added incentive, participants were delighted to find out that they could win a free book from the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) upon completion of the book hunt. This exciting opportunity further motivated students to immerse themselves in the literary adventure.

Jenny Clemson, from the LRC, played a pivotal role in orchestrating the day's events, ensuring that everything ran smoothly and that students had an unforgettable experience. Her dedication and enthusiasm were evident in every aspect of the celebration, contributing to its success.

Additionally, students were treated to book tokens, courtesy of the school, allowing them to purchase books at a discounted rate from the LRC. This initiative aimed to encourage students to continue their reading journey beyond World Book Day and explore a diverse range of literary works.

As the day drew to a close, it was evident that Great Sankey High School had successfully instilled a passion for reading and literature in its students, fostering a community where the magic of books continues to thrive. With such enthusiastic participation and creative initiatives, the school reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals with a deep appreciation for the written word.
