We’re incredibly proud of Year 11 students Ellie, Kodie, and Kitty (Yr 10), who successfully organised and hosted a brilliant Race Night fundraiser on 30th May — raising a fantastic £1200 towards their upcoming Kenya expedition.

The event was held at St Joseph’s Social Club in Penketh and saw an impressive turnout of around 60 guests. From the moment they began planning, the girls threw themselves into every detail — designing posters, spreading the word across social media and within the local community, and preparing all the activities and prizes for the night. Their determination and energy were truly inspiring.

The evening itself was packed with entertainment, thanks to the girls' creative lineup of fundraising games and activities, including:

  • Selling football cards
  • “Guess the teddy’s name”
  • “Guess how many 5p’s in a jar”
  • Hook-a-duck for the children
  • Raffle ticket sales

Every part of the night was a testament to their hard work — and what makes this achievement even more remarkable is that they did it all while revising for and sitting their GCSEs. Balancing school commitments with planning a major fundraiser is no easy task, but Ellie, Kodie and Kitty showed incredible resilience, time management, and teamwork to make it happen.

This fundraiser is part of the wider Kenya expedition campaign, which will see 26 students from Great Sankey High School head to Kenya later this year. The trip will offer unforgettable experiences, including working with local communities, taking part in conservation efforts, and gaining valuable insights into global development. Fundraising is a key part of the preparation, and our students have embraced the challenge with real passion and creativity.

Well done to Ellie, Kodie and Kitty — your school is extremely proud of you. And thank you to everyone who came along to support the event!
