Key Stage 3 Students Become Published Authors in National Literacy Trust Competition

Last half term, we invited all of our Key Stage 3 students to take part in a national creative writing competition run by the National Literacy Trust, as part of National Storytelling Week. This annual event celebrates the power of stories to inspire, connect and give young people a voice — and this year’s theme was especially thought-provoking: “Reimagine Your World.”
The prompt encouraged students to look at the world around them in new and imaginative ways. As the organisers explained:
“Whether it’s something unexpected on your way to school, odd sounds you hear at night, or a path you’ve never followed, the world around us is full of secret lives, places and possibilities. The most extraordinary story can come from the most ordinary place: it just needs someone to find it.”
Students were invited to write a 500-word short story inspired by this theme. The competition attracted thousands of entries from secondary schools across the UK, all filled with creativity, originality, and bold storytelling.
We’re incredibly proud to share that Leo, Molly, Saim, and Dara were selected as winners — and have now had their work published in the official National Literacy Trust anthology! Their imaginative stories impressed the judges and earned them a place among the UK’s most promising young writers:
- Dara – Path
- Molly – Spring
- Leo – Battle of Urban Birds
- Saim – Reimagine Your World
All four students received copies of the professionally printed anthology this week and proudly celebrated their success with our Headteacher, Mr Evans. It was a well-deserved moment of recognition — and a reminder of what young people can achieve when given the space to explore and express their ideas.
We also now have a copy of the anthology in our school library, where it will be proudly displayed for others to read and be inspired by.
Becoming a published author at such a young age is an outstanding achievement, and we couldn’t be more proud of Leo, Molly, Saim, and Dara. Please join us in congratulating them — and keep an eye out for what they write next!
