We are delighted to share the fantastic news that Miss Lowdon has been awarded HPL Highly Effective Teacher status at the recent HPL Conference and Awards Gala Dinner — a significant achievement that reflects both her dedication and our school’s ongoing commitment to High Performance Learning (HPL).

High Performance Learning (HPL) is an educational framework built on the belief that every student has the potential to achieve highly, regardless of starting point or background. It focuses on developing advanced thinking skills such as analysis, reasoning and problem-solving, alongside strong learning behaviours including resilience, collaboration, independence and curiosity. At Great Sankey High School, HPL underpins our teaching and learning approach, helping to ensure that all students are consistently challenged and supported to achieve their very best.

As part of this framework, the HPL Teacher Certificate Award is an externally validated recognition awarded to educators in HPL-accredited schools who demonstrate consistent and effective use of the HPL philosophy and framework in their classroom practice. These awards are typically presented and celebrated at the annual HPL Conference.

Over recent years, staff across the school have been working hard to embed HPL principles into everyday classroom practice. This includes refining lesson design to promote deeper thinking, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning, and developing a shared language that supports high expectations for all. This whole-school commitment continues to strengthen the quality of teaching and learning across every subject area.

Miss Lowdon has played an important role in this journey. Her dedication to HPL has been evident through her consistent application of its principles in the classroom, her support of colleagues, and her contribution to the wider development of teaching and learning within the school. Achieving HPL Highly Effective Teacher status requires sustained excellence, reflection and impact, and is a clear recognition of her professional expertise and commitment to student success.

Her success at the HPL Conference is not only a personal achievement but also a reflection of the collaborative culture within the school, where staff work together to continuously improve and raise standards. It highlights the strength of our teaching community and our shared ambition to provide the very best educational experience for every student.

We are incredibly proud of Miss Lowdon and the contribution she makes to Great Sankey High School. Her achievement will continue to inspire both staff and students as we move forward on our HPL journey, striving for excellence in all that we do.

Congratulations, Miss Lowdon!
