Young Writers’ Success: Celebrating Our Published Authors

We are delighted to celebrate the fantastic success of our students who have been selected as winners in two nationally recognised Young Writers competitions. Their work has been published in the anthologies The Adventures of… Marvellous Myths and Stranger Sagas: Into the Storm. An incredible 33 students from our school have achieved publication—an outstanding accomplishment and a testament to their creativity, imagination and dedication to writing.
These are two separate collections, each showcasing a different style of creative writing. Stranger Sagas: Into the Storm challenges students to craft a complete story in just 100 words, often centred around mystery, tension or the unexpected. This format encourages precision, careful vocabulary choice and strong narrative structure, as students must capture a beginning, middle and end within a limited word count.
In contrast, The Adventures of… Marvellous Myths invites students to explore the world of myths and legends, creating imaginative tales inspired by folklore, heroes and magical worlds. This competition allows students to develop their storytelling skills more freely, focusing on creativity, characterisation and descriptive writing.
The Young Writers competitions offer students the unique opportunity to see their work professionally published in a beautifully presented book—something many aspiring authors only dream of. Having their writing selected for publication is a significant achievement and provides a real sense of pride and motivation to continue developing their skills.
Participation in these competitions is supported through our Learning Resource Centre (LRC), which runs approximately three to four Young Writers competitions each academic year. These events form a key part of our commitment to literacy, giving students regular opportunities to engage in creative writing. Entries also contribute towards Year 7 and Year 8 Literacy Certificates, further encouraging students to take part and develop their skills.
Writing is a fundamental life skill that supports success across all subjects. Creative writing, in particular, allows students to express their ideas, build confidence and develop their imagination. Competitions like these help students refine essential skills such as planning, editing and communicating effectively, while also giving them a platform to share their voice.
We are incredibly proud of all 33 students who have achieved publication across these two anthologies. Their success reflects both their hard work and the strong culture of literacy within our school.
