Great Sankey Year 7 Pupils Part of Historic 'Team of the Year' at Warrington Guardian Inspiration Awards

We are incredibly proud to announce that five of our talented Year 7 students – Sam Rowlinson, Alfie Coen, Jacob Leathem, Louie Percival, and Sam Staniford – were part of the Warrington School Boys Football Team, which won the prestigious Team of the Year award at the 2025 Warrington Guardian Inspiration Awards.
The event, held at The Village Hotel on Wednesday, 24th April, celebrated the incredible achievements of individuals and groups across Warrington. The Warrington School Boys team was honoured for their historic victory at Goodison Park in the Merseyside County Schools FA Goodison Cup, where they made history by becoming the first Warrington team in nearly 40 years to claim the trophy.
The team, made up of young footballers from primary schools across Warrington, battled their way through several rounds, including matches against St Helens, Wirral, and Bootle. The final at Goodison Park saw them triumph 2-0 over North Sefton, with Keegan Gifford and Sam Rowlinson scoring the decisive goals.
On the night of the awards ceremony, Sam Rowlinson took to the stage at The Village Hotel to collect the Team of the Year trophy on behalf of his teammates. It was a proud moment for Sam and the rest of the team, who were celebrated not only for their skill on the pitch but also for their sportsmanship and teamwork.
This victory is being hailed as one of the finest footballing successes in Warrington's history, and the team's manager has praised the boys for their outstanding performance, acknowledging the magnitude of their achievement.
We are so proud of Sam, Alfie, Jacob, Louie, and Sam for their contributions to this remarkable victory. Their success brings immense pride to Great Sankey High School and the wider Warrington community.
Congratulations to all the players for their dedication, and we look forward to seeing what they achieve in the future.
